Our players are dedicated to representing Archbishop Mitty both on and off the field with class and integrity. The Archbishop Mitty High School lacrosse team, led by head coach Michael Faby, is gearing up for an exciting and promising season. The team's goals this year go beyond winning games and championships. Coach Faby’s main focus is to build better men who will leave a positive imp
This philosophy sets the tone for the team’s success as they work towards their ultimate goal. One of the key factors in achieving this goal is the team’s ability to build chemistry and improve every day. This year’s team has a strong core of returning players led by seniors Harrison Zmijewski and John Nelson.
These two players have grown as athletes and individuals, showcasing their skills in national events. Zmijewski’s game has matured and he is ready for a breakout year, while Nelson has made huge strides in the offseason and is prepared to lead the team’s defense. Alongside the returning players, the Mitty team also has a group of new players who are expected to make an immediate impact.
Sophomores Luca Contarino, Ryan Yun, and Cameron Pulliam have shown great potential and are poised for a breakout season. Additionally, freshman Isaias Vera is pushing for the starting spot in goal, competing with returning junior Justin Smith. These new players bring fresh energy and talent to the team, adding to the already strong roster. Coach Faby values qualities such as leadership and the ability to make those around them better when selecting team captains.
The team’s leadership group has met regularly to set team values, define what it means to be a leader, and establish what it takes to be a Mitty lacrosse player. This strong foundation of leadership and teamwork will undoubtedly play a crucial role in the team’s success this season. In terms of motivation, Coach Faby believes it is the responsibility of the players to set their own goals and work towards achieving them.
He also emphasizes the importance of the mental aspect of the game, utilizing aspects of the Calm App to help the team focus on controlling their responses to mistakes and staying in the present moment on the field. The team has faced some challenges in preparing for this season, mainly due to the loss of 15 seniors from last year’s roster.
