As the new season approaches, the Arkansas City High School volleyball team is gearing up for another exciting year on the court. Under the guidance of Coach Brylee Creed, the team is ready to showcase their skills and determination to succeed. In this article, we have the opportunity to dive deeper into the team’s journey and understand the key players, challenges, and goals that will shape their performance this season.
Returning to the team this year are some key players who have already proven themselves in the previous season. These players include seniors Emily Johnson and Olivia Smith, and junior Emma Williams. With their experience and talent, these players have been chosen as team captains and will be leading the team on and off the court. Coach Creed explains:
“We look for someone who leads by example. They’re relentless on the court and their presence also demands attention while still attaining the ability to be humble.” These players set the tone for the rest of the team, motivating them to push themselves to their full potential. Team chemistry and camaraderie are crucial elements for a successful season. Coach Creed emphasizes the importance of a strong bond between teammates, “Nothing binds people together like the struggle of grinding it out in practice every day.”
To instill this bond, the team works hard in training and supports each other through their struggles. This not only creates a sense of unity but also builds trust and teamwork on the court. Motivation is the driving force behind any successful team. For Coach Creed, hard work is the key to pushing players to their full potential. “I try to remind them often that they ARE capable of doing things that they don’t think are in their wheelhouse but they have to believe it and be comfortable with the uncomfortable position that learning something new puts them in.”
By instilling a growth mindset and reminding players of their capabilities, Coach Creed pushes them to strive for perfection and achieve excellence in their game. Preparing for a new season comes with its own set of challenges. For Coach Creed and the Arkansas City High School team, the biggest challenge has been changing the overall culture of the program.
The team has a history of not being a strong contender in the volleyball world, but Coach Creed aims to overcome this by getting the athletes to see their potential and trust in the systems put in place by the coaching staff. As for their schedule this season, the team is ready to take on some tough opponents.
