As the high school wrestling season approaches, the Arroyo High School wrestling team is gearing up for what promises to be an exciting year. Under the leadership of Coach Can Tran, the team is working hard to reach its goals of winning CIF and advancing to the CA State Championships. With a mix of returning players and new talent, the team is ready to make an impact and continue its tradition of success on the mat.
One of the biggest strengths of this year's team is the top returning players from last season. These players have consistently shown their dedication and determination in practice and competitions, and their hard work has paid off. They not only have the technical skills needed to excel in wrestling but also possess intangible qualities that make them stand out.
These players include boys' team members Lucas Long, Osvaldo Mendoza, Alejandro Reyes, Julian Lopez, and Marcus Kuo, and girls' team members Destiny Huitron, Dalylah Mora, Chelsey Quintanilla, and Grace Dominguez. All of these players have the potential to make an immediate impact on the team, and their experience and leadership skills will be invaluable to their teammates.
But it's not just about individual talent on this team. Coach Tran is also focused on building team chemistry and camaraderie among his players. He believes that a cohesive team is a successful team, and he is looking for consistency, citizenship, work ethic, success, and helpful qualities in selecting his captains. Captains play an important role in leading the team and setting a positive example for their teammates.
This year, candidates for captains include Lucas Long, Destiny Huitron, Chelsey Quintanilla, and Grace Dominguez. Coaching is not just about strategy and training, it's also about motivating and pushing players to reach their full potential. Coach Tran knows how to do this by building team chemistry through fun activities and events, such as playing soccer, going hiking, and hosting BBQs.
By fostering a sense of camaraderie and a healthy team dynamic, players are motivated to push themselves and work harder for the benefit of the team. The team has faced some challenges in preparing for this season, including not having access to their home gym due to renovations. However, Coach Tran's focus on improvement and gratitude for the opportunity to train and compete has kept the team motivated and focused. No matter the obstacles they may face, the team remains determined and positive.
