After a remarkable 2024 season that saw Atlas High School’s Rattlers reach the National Championship Game, Coach Chris Connaughton and his squad are gearing up for an even bigger 2025. From building a permanent facility to elevating offseason training, the Rattlers are committed to continuing their rise as one of the most respected programs in the nation. Offseason Focus: Building a Home & Sustaining Success This offseason, the program’s top priority has been laying the groundwork for long-term success—literally. A feasibility study has given the green light to pursue building Atlas’s first-ever permanent football facility. "This is a huge step for our program," said Coach Connaughton. "It will be a place where our athletes can train, grow, and compete at the highest level." On the field, the focus is clear: capitalize on last year’s success and push even further. With much of the offense returning and new coaching firepower, the Rattlers are more motivated than ever. Special Events: Big Stages and Bigger Opportunities Atlas athletes are maximizing their offseason by attending elite-level showcases and national camps. From the Tiki Hawaiian Bowl to the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl, Rattlers have been everywhere. Standouts are also representing the program at events like the Army Combine, Navy Combine, Under Armour Combine, Select 50 Showcase, and Exact Sports Invite Camp. To kick off the new season, the team will travel to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis—home of the Colts and NFL Combine—for their season opener, a true national stage for this rising powerhouse. Roster Updates: Core Returns with New Talent & Elite Coaching Atlas will return a large portion of its offensive unit, led by experienced playmakers and a fortified coaching staff boasting NCAA Division I and NFL experience. While a few underclassmen have transferred, their departure has been offset by strong new additions across the board. Players to Watch: Talent All Over the Field #7 Timmy Thames – A versatile weapon and defensive anchor at OLB. Also contributes at WR and serves as the team’s long snapper. #2 Jack Garza – A three-year starter and explosive WR who’s racked up over 1,600 all-purpose yards and 21 TDs in two seasons. Offensive Line – Returning starters #79 CJ Scott, #70 Cristian Garcia, and #64 John Gallagher lead a tough, experienced front. They’re joined by two physical standouts: #58 Gage Lancaster (6’6", 300 lbs) and #77 Bryce Mosely (6’4", 295 lbs). All are developing under elite guidance from Coach Robert McAlister (Coach Mac) and his Score For You training organization. On defense, expect several young players who gained valuable reps last season to step into key roles. Training & Nutrition: Next-Level Preparation The Rattlers’ strength and conditioning program mirrors top collegiate programs, incorporating verified workouts, nutrition guidance, and performance tracking. Athletes earn exclusive Rattlers Weight & Conditioning Program shirts for verified progress, helping motivate and unite the team. Coaching Strategy: Sharpening Every Edge Offseason coaching has been highly personalized. Coaches are offering free private position training, and Spring Ball kicks off in early May, allowing the team to refine skills and develop chemistry. College coaches have also been invited to attend, giving players direct exposure and recruitment opportunities. Community Engagement: More Than Just Football The Rattlers stay connected with their fanbase through active social media accounts on X, Instagram, and Facebook, highlighting athletes’ achievements and community involvement. Players are also active in service, joining mission trips, participating in Civil Air Patrol, Trail Life, and a variety of local volunteer efforts. Biggest Challenges Ahead: Testing Themselves Against the Best Atlas has intentionally leveled up its schedule, facing tougher opponents from across all major Texas conferences—UIL, TAPPS, and the Southwest Prep Conference. This diverse competition will test their resilience and give a true benchmark of their growth. The season will once again conclude with a trip to Panama City Beach, Florida, where the Rattlers will compete for the National Championship—a title they narrowly missed in 2024. With unmatched energy, elite talent, and an unwavering commitment to improvement, the Atlas HS Rattlers are not just chasing wins—they’re building a legacy.
