Under the guidance of Coach Lora Tilson, the Austin Bowie High School cross-country team is gearing up for another exciting season with a strong focus on teamwork, leadership, and development. With a talented mix of experienced seniors and rising young stars, the Bulldogs are poised for a competitive year. Offseason Focus & Key Players to Watch This offseason, the team has emphasized leadership and teamwork, ensuring that younger athletes follow the example of those excelling. The standout Griffin Hummel, a senior and the team's top runner for the past two years, is expected to lead the charge once again. Other key runners to watch include: Atticus Sanchez (Sophomore) – Gained valuable varsity experience last year; expected to step up. Bryce Jokinen (Sophomore) – Another young talent with strong potential for a breakout season. A solid group of seniors will play a crucial role in maintaining the team's positive and competitive atmosphere. Special Offseason Events & Community Engagement Austin Bowie maintains a strong connection with the local running community, participating in Austin’s Cap10K run, where the team has consistently fielded the largest group for the past three years. Additionally, the team is engaged in fun runs, fundraisers, and local running events, making them a recognized presence in the Austin running scene. Strength, Training & Nutrition While weight room access is limited due to the size of the school, the team has incorporated Strength and Mobility training to enhance performance. Nutritional guidance includes protein and carb intake post-practice and discussions on foods to avoid to optimize recovery and endurance. Coaching Approach & Season Outlook Coach Tilson’s coaching philosophy for 2025 is centered on creating a fun, motivating environment where athletes take ownership of their performance. The staff continues to attend coaching clinics to refine their approach, ensuring runners are prepared physically and mentally for competition. Biggest Challenge The Bulldogs’ greatest challenge will be mastering the little things—staying injury-free, being disciplined in training, and paying attention to the details that make champions. With a dedicated coaching staff, strong leadership from seniors, and a positive team culture, Austin Bowie is ready to make this season one to remember!
