Austin, MN — With a solid core of players returning and a tight-knit coaching staff ready to fine-tune their approach, the Austin High School Volleyball program is entering the offseason with a sense of focus and optimism. Head Coach Nichelle Gabrielson is confident in the team's direction, emphasizing the importance of year-round activity, multi-sport participation, and strong team culture. Staying Active, On and Off the Court While volleyball-specific workouts are part of the plan, Coach Gabrielson takes a broader approach in the offseason. “If the girls can play volleyball, that’s wonderful — but I’m a strong advocate for multi-sport athletes. As long as they’re staying active, we’re hitting our goals,” she says. Basketball, softball, track, and weight training are all encouraged, creating well-rounded and resilient athletes. Summer Workouts & Camps Fuel Team Bonding During the summer, the team will be back in the high school gym two to three times per week. Captains are also empowered to lead informal workouts — last year, that included runs, lifts, and conditioning sessions at the track. The program also has plans to attend summer team camps, which Coach Gabrielson sees as critical opportunities to strengthen team chemistry before the season kicks off. Returning Core Brings Experience and Firepower The team’s strength lies in its returning stars. Quinn Osgood and Isabella Bolster will once again lead the offense, while Addison Walsh and Lexi Brede anchor the defense. “These girls are incredibly hard workers,” says Gabrielson. “They’ve been consistent leaders, and I can’t wait to see how they progress this summer.” With most of the core roster returning, there’s stability and familiarity, both of which are assets when building toward a successful season. Building a Stronger Team—On and Off the Court Team bonding is a priority, especially with a few open roster spots creating opportunities for younger players. “We know relatively what to expect, but we’ve got some exciting talent coming up,” says Gabrielson. “We’re constantly evaluating our coaching strategies to put the girls in the best position to succeed.” The coaching staff is already discussing key roles and strategizing for the fall. The strong communication and trust among coaches mirror the same culture they aim to foster among their players. Supporting Each Other Across Sports The Austin volleyball team is a visible and vocal part of the school community. “It’s amazing to see how supportive the girls are of other teams,” says Gabrielson. Whether it’s basketball, football, or track, the volleyball girls can often be spotted in the stands, cheering on their peers — a culture of mutual support and school pride that strengthens their bond. Eyes on Growth, Chemistry, and Competitive Fire As with any new season, the biggest challenge will be getting back into rhythm and developing chemistry with new faces. “Teamwork goes beyond skill,” says Gabrielson. “It’s about how we communicate, support one another, and stay mentally strong.” Team bonding activities throughout the summer will be key to helping the team gel. With a mix of returning talent, new opportunities, and a passion for continuous growth, Austin High School Volleyball is poised for another exciting chapter in 2025.
