As a coach, my philosophy is centered around creating a thriving culture within the team. This includes constantly improving upon our previous achievements and striving for excellence in all aspects of our operations. I believe that continuous growth and improvement are essential for long-term success, and this year is no exception. Our team has a strong core of returning players, including seniors Alexis Bilas, Ruby Yanagi, and Aj Rivera. Each of them brings invaluable experience and leadership to the team, setting a high standard for the younger players to follow. Alexis, in particular, has had a remarkable year and is expected to play a significant role in our offense and defense. Along with our returning players, we have a talented group of first-year Eagles, including junior Kalay Miller and freshman Jozlyn Garza, who I believe will make an immediate impact on the team. Building team chemistry and camaraderie is crucial for our success this year. We plan on prioritizing open communication among players, engaging in team-building activities outside of practice, and designing drills that require teamwork and problem-solving. This will help strengthen our relationships and trust among teammates while reinforcing our unity as a cohesive unit. One of the biggest challenges we face this season is bridging the gap between our senior and freshman teams. However, through spending time together on and off the court, we have seen an improvement in understanding and belief in one another. Additionally, we are focusing on conditioning and agility training to compensate for any inexperienced mistakes that may arise from having a younger team. A key aspect of our coaching philosophy is upholding a higher standard for our players, both on and off the court. I believe in creating a high-energy team that disrupts opponents’ offenses, compelling them to play according to our strategy. This season, we have made some changes to our offense and defense to fit the strengths and weaknesses of our team. Communication on the court is crucial for our success, and it is something we constantly emphasize in practice. Our goal is to have a high-energy, loud gym where our players are constantly talking to one another and disrupting our opponents' offense. While we have a tough schedule this year, including a game against Clovis West and a trip to Hawaii, we are excited about the opportunity to compete against higher-caliber teams. We hope that the tough schedule will prepare us for the playoffs. As we enter the season, I want to thank our academic administration for their support in helping our players maintain their grades while balancing academics and sports.
