Personal Growth and Team Cohesion Lead the Way At Bedford North Lawrence High School, the volleyball team is entering the 2025 season, emphasizing personal growth, both on and off the court. With several athletes competing in club programs and participating in other sports, the offseason has become a prime opportunity to enhance individual development. Head Coach Aaron Wagoner and his staff are also using this time to strengthen their approach as a coaching unit. “Our staff is working on communication and coaching as a team. That’s been just as important as the player development,” Wagoner shared. Offseason Events: Summer Work and Hanover Invitational The BNL squad is keeping busy this summer. The team will compete in the Hanover Invitational on July 12th, giving players an early opportunity to test their skills against strong competition. In addition to tournament play, summer will be filled with regular practices and conditioning sessions. “Limited contact starts next week, and we’re ready to make the most of it,” Wagoner noted. Roster Changes: Youth Movement and Staff Updates The Stars graduated just one senior last season, who had joined as a transfer setter, leaving the door open for younger talent to step into key roles. A sophomore will be taking over the setting duties, bringing fresh energy to the team’s offense. On the coaching side, BNL saw its JV coach relocate to Florida. A new coach is set to join the program and will be working with either the JV or C team, providing a fresh voice and support to the developing squad. Strength and Conditioning: Core Focused and Trainer-Led This offseason marks a new approach to fitness at BNL, with the team working under the guidance of a certified trainer to improve conditioning and strength. The primary focus? Core strength and full-body conditioning—both vital for performance and injury prevention. Nutrition: Simple But Smart While there is no formal nutrition program, the team maintains one key rule: no energy drinks before games. Simple, but essential for focus and performance. Coach Preparation: Film, Camps, and Strategy Development Coach Wagoner and his staff are laying the groundwork for the fall by watching film, attending coaching camps, and preparing to tailor strategies based on how the athletes progress over the summer. “We’ll solidify our approach once we see what kind of growth our players have made,” said Wagoner. Community Connection: Fundraisers Drive Engagement Fan and community engagement during the offseason has been primarily driven through fundraising efforts. These events help fund the team's goals while keeping the program connected to its supporters. Biggest Challenge: Gym Space and Scheduling Despite strong momentum, the biggest hurdle facing BNL Volleyball this season is a lack of gym availability. “We won’t have the space we need to train the way we’d like to,” Wagoner acknowledged. “It’s going to take flexibility and a lot of creativity to get the most out of our limited court time.” With new leaders emerging, a stronger focus on fitness, and a resilient mindset, Bedford North Lawrence Volleyball is preparing for a competitive and meaningful season, regardless of the challenges that lie ahead.
