After back-to-back 1-9 seasons, Boyd Football is heading into 2025 with a clear mission: flip the script and restore a winning tradition. With a new coaching staff and an experienced senior class, the Yellowjackets are reloading with energy, focus, and belief. Offseason Focus: Experience + Excitement The biggest storyline this offseason is the coaching transition, bringing a fresh perspective and brand-new systems on both sides of the ball. “We’ll be very experienced, but we’re also learning something new,” said Head Coach Shawn Sparks. “The change has brought excitement and energy.” The offseason has focused on building chemistry, absorbing the new schemes, and reigniting a competitive culture throughout the locker room. New Staff, New System, Same Fight Coach Sparks and his staff are bringing a more wide-open offense and a multiple front defense, aiming to put players in positions to succeed. It’s not just about Xs and Os—it’s about mindset. “The program has to get over the mentality of the past few years. That’s what this offseason is all about—believing in the turnaround.” Players to Watch: Senior Class Brings the Juice Boyd’s large senior class is loaded with talent, leadership, and experience—ready to lead the charge into a new era: Hunter Etter – WR/DB Garrett Hunt – LB/H Cash Selby – ATH Jess Withers – LB/DE Maddox Parks – OLB/WR Braxton Reasoner – OL Each has contributed significant varsity reps and shown dedication in offseason training. This group will set the tone for the new-look Yellowjackets. Community Reconnection: Plugging Back into Boyd Pride Coach Sparks knows how important tradition is in Boyd—and he’s made it a point to reconnect with that proud history. “This team will become a larger part of the community. The town has a great tradition, and it’s time to plug back into it. The players feel it, and they’re embracing it.” Biggest Challenge: Changing the Mentality The most pressing obstacle isn’t talent—it’s shaking off the sting of recent seasons. Breaking out of a losing culture takes more than talent—it takes belief, accountability, and relentless effort. With a senior-heavy squad, a staff full of new energy, and a town ready to rally behind them, the Yellowjackets are preparing to turn the page. Outlook: Building a Foundation for the Future The road ahead won’t be easy, but Boyd Football is done looking backward. This offseason has been about building belief, mastering a new system, and preparing to compete every Friday night. As Coach Sparks put it: “We’re not just changing plays. We’re changing the mindset.”
