Mon, April 14, 2025 at 03:04 AM . Virginia
As the offseason rolls on in Ashburn, the Broad Run High School football team is locked in on a clear mission: compete harder, train smarter, and play faster. Head Coach Zac Barnisky and his staff are working to build not just stronger athletes, but mentally tougher, more unified Spartans. Three Core Offseason Pillars: Competing, Strength, and Speed Coach Barnisky has emphasized three critical components this offseason: Competing at every level – raising the standard in the weight room, during drills, and on the field. Strength development – building physical toughness across all positions. Speed & quickness – focusing on explosiveness and agility to elevate play. Team Bonding at Shenandoah University Broad Run will once again attend Team Camp at Shenandoah University this July, a staple in the team’s offseason calendar. It’s a valuable time for both development and bonding, allowing the group to train intensively and strengthen team chemistry before fall camp begins. Players to Watch in 2025 The Spartans return a core of experienced playmakers who are expected to lead the charge this season: Caleb Pavlus – Versatile weapon at WR/RB Luke Brandenburg & Elijah Williams – Powerful RB duo George Nicholson & Mason Schwenke – Reliable tight ends with big-play potential Ben Barrett – Dynamic wideout Cam Alberts – Steady presence at FS Ty Brandenburg – Aggressive and athletic corner Matt Lally – Two-way lineman set to anchor the trenches With this foundation, the Spartans boast a strong blend of talent, experience, and versatility heading into the 2025 season. Strength, Nutrition & 300 Hours of Accountability Broad Run’s unique “300 Hours Program” holds players accountable not only in strength training, but also in nutrition, recovery, and leadership development. Players actively track their progress throughout the offseason, reinforcing a mindset of discipline and personal responsibility. Coach’s Approach: Maximizing Every Player’s Potential The coaching staff is all in on development, focusing on maximizing each player’s ability and tailoring strategies to fit the strengths of this year’s squad. “We’re focusing on ourselves—trying to get the best out of every single player in the program,” said Coach Barnisky. Connecting with the Community Spartan football is also making an impact off the field. The program runs a Mom’s Camp, helping parents engage with the game, and a Youth Tackling Camp, building relationships with the next generation of athletes in the area. The Road Ahead With key returners and a strong offseason structure in place, the biggest challenge for Broad Run will be developing internal leadership and competing at a higher level every day. “We’ve got to continue to grow as competitors. If we do that and step up as leaders, we’ll be in a great spot.”
