With a new head coach, a strong returning core, and a commitment to accountability, Brookwood High School Football is preparing for a highly competitive 2025 season. Under the leadership of Head Coach Chad Nighbert, the team is focused on building discipline, toughness, and team unity while maintaining its tradition of excellence.
Offseason Training & Development
This offseason, the Broncos have prioritized discipline, effort, and commitment as the foundation for success. Players have been participating in early morning “Maroon Dawn” workouts, which include strength, agility, and conditioning drills designed to push them physically and mentally.
Summer Camps & Competition
To further develop their skills and build chemistry, Brookwood will attend two padded camps in June and July, as well as a lineman development camp. The team will also compete in several passing league tournaments throughout the summer, helping sharpen their offensive and defensive schemes.
New Leadership & Key Roster Updates
Brookwood enters the new season with a fresh coaching staff, as Chad Nighbert takes over as head coach. Additionally, Thomas Swilley joins as the offensive line coach, while Mitch Mathews takes over linebacker coaching duties.
Players to Watch
The Broncos return several high-impact players on both sides of the ball:
Brayden Tyson – The state’s leading rusher last season with 2,300+ yards and 10 yards per carry, Tyson is expected to be a game-changer once again.
Gary Chatman – A rising junior and new starting quarterback, Chatman is poised to become a dynamic dual-threat playmaker.
Kaiden McKenzie & Zayden Walters – Both starting offensive tackles return, providing a powerful 6'3.5", 320-pound presence on the line.
Daniel Diggs – The team’s leading tackler last season, Diggs will anchor the defensive unit.
Kris Brunson, Julian Elzey, and DayDay Pearson – A talented group of defensive backs who will play a key role in shutting down opposing offenses.
Xavier Pfister & Unitas Baltimore – Disruptors on the defensive line, adding pressure and playmaking ability up front.
Focus on Nutrition & Recovery
Brookwood is prioritizing nutrition to maximize player performance and recovery. The team ensures players receive protein within 15 minutes post-workout and is planning a structured meal program to help with sustained energy and endurance.
Strategic Adjustments & Coaching Approach
The coaching staff is implementing new offensive and defensive schemes tailored to the team’s strengths. Offensively, the Broncos are refining their operations, while defensively, they are adjusting strategies to prepare for diverse opponents and formations. Special teams will build on past success while adding new wrinkles to enhance effectiveness.
Fan Engagement & Community Connection
The program is making a strong push to reconnect with alumni and grow booster club participation. Additionally, Brookwood Football plans to engage in community outreach projects and mentor younger athletes in local recreation programs, strengthening its ties within the Brookwood community.
Biggest Challenge: Uniting the Program
Coach Nighbert believes the biggest challenge will be uniting the entire Brookwood community—players, coaches, alumni, and fans—to build a winning culture. With a strong coaching staff, talented roster, and unwavering support, the Broncos are prepared to make Brookwood one of the premier football programs in Georgia.
With renewed energy and a focus on team accountability, the 2025 season promises to be an exciting journey for Brookwood Football!
