The 2021 cross-country season at Buffalo Grove High School is an exciting one as new head coach Danielle Freeman takes the reins of the team. With a fresh perspective and energy, Coach Freeman is optimistic about the potential of her team and eager to see them grow and improve throughout the season. One of the main focuses for Coach Freeman and her team is building a sense of unity and camaraderie amongst the players. With a team made up mostly of freshmen and sophomores, it can be challenging to bring everyone together and create a strong bond, but Coach Freeman is determined to do so. She believes that having a sense of family and support within the team can make a significant impact on the girls' performance and overall experience. The team will be led by juniors Lily Nelson and Eva Kavalerchick, who have exemplified the qualities Coach Freeman looks for in potential team captains. These two girls have displayed strong leadership skills, inclusivity, and a positive attitude, making them ideal role models for their teammates. Coach Freeman's coaching philosophy is centered on the idea of hard work and kindness. She believes that by working hard and being nice to one another, her team can achieve great things on and off the field. She also emphasizes the importance of mental toughness and pushing oneself to their full potential. To motivate her players, Coach Freeman makes sure to acknowledge and praise their efforts and improvements, showing them that their hard work does not go unnoticed. One of the biggest challenges for the team this season is the fact that Coach Freeman is new to Buffalo Grove High School and is still learning about the girls and their dynamic as a team. However, she is determined to make a name for their team and build interest and support within the school and community. In terms of training and conditioning, everything is new to Coach Freeman as she is not aware of the team's previous training program. However, she believes in creating a close-knit and supportive atmosphere within the team to help them through the mentally grueling sport of cross country. Through love and support for one another, Coach Freeman hopes to see her team grow and improve throughout the season. As for the team's strengths and weaknesses, Coach Freeman believes that their kind, welcoming, and caring nature is their biggest strength. This positivity and support for one another will help them succeed and make the season enjoyable for everyone.
