A new season means a fresh start and for the Burlingame High School softball team, that means building on the foundation of last year's success. We sat down with Coach Albert Delrosso to get a preview of what fans can expect from the team this season. Coach Delrosso emphasized the importance of consistency in pitching and getting on base for the top of their lineup to have a successful year.
With this focus, there are a few key returning players who will play an important role in the team's success. Seniors Sienna Fuss and Kelsey Flenickan in the infield and Gianna Johnson, along with sophomore Maddy Koo in the outfield bring experience and leadership to the team.
Another senior, Amalia Alfers, will handle a significant portion of the pitching duties along with sophomore Kiley Lyons. While these returning players will be leaned on for leadership, Coach Delrosso also sees potential in the junior class. Catcher Kendall Gorshen and middle infielder Sophie Lin are two players to watch out for as they battle for a captain position.
Leadership and a strong team bond are essential ingredients for any successful team. Coach Delrosso plans on implementing team chemistry and camaraderie through competitive practices and setting team goals. He believes that by keeping the players focused on a common goal, they will naturally bond and develop chemistry on and off the field.
Pushing players to reach their full potential can be a difficult task, but Coach Delrosso believes that setting team goals and creating a culture of discipline and hard work will motivate them. He also plans on having team activities to build trust and unity, something that will further motivate the players.
One of the biggest challenges in preparing for this season has been figuring out how to fit all the pieces of the puzzle together. With new players and potential injuries, it can be difficult to define roles and find the right chemistry on the field. However, Coach Delrosso is confident in his team's abilities and the potential they bring to the table. The team has a tough schedule ahead of them, but they are looking forward to the challenge.
With a good mix of non-conference games and highly competitive league games, there are no easy opponents. This will be a true test of the team's abilities and will show their progress throughout the season. When asked about any changes in his coaching style, Coach Delrosso stated that there will always be adjustments and room for improvement.
