As the new basketball season approaches, fans and players alike are eager to see what Cape Henry Collegiate School has in store for this year. After finishing in the top three in their conference (TCIS) last season, the team has high hopes for repeating their success and potentially even winning the conference championship. In order to get a better understanding of the team and their goals, we spoke with Coach Lance Hurdle, who gave us a preview of what to expect this season. Coach Hurdle is no stranger to success, having led the team to numerous playoff appearances and a state championship in 2016. With his experience and leadership, there's no doubt that Cape Henry Collegiate will be a team to watch out for this season. Coach Hurdle's first order of business was highlighting the top returning players from last season. These players are essential to the team's success and will play a crucial role in leading the team to victory. According to Coach Hurdle, the top returning players are Ryan Hummel, Tyler Bass, Braedan Mebane, and Keegan Mulkey. These players bring a combination of talent, skill, and leadership to the team, making them special in their ways. Ryan Hummel, a senior guard, is known for his ability to score and make plays for his teammates. He has an impressive basketball IQ and is crucial to the team's success on both ends of the court. Tyler Bass, also a senior guard, is a dynamic player who can control the pace of the game and make clutch shots. His leadership on and off the court will be vital to the team's chemistry and success. Braedan Mebane, a junior guard, is a versatile player who can shoot from the outside, attack the basket, and play solid defense. Keegan Mulkey, a senior forward, brings energy and intensity to the team with his rebounding and defensive skills. In addition to the returning players, Coach Hurdle is excited about the new players joining the team this season. He specifically highlighted AJ Swenney, Aydon Evans, Porter Duncan, and Sebastian Whitfield as potential players who can make an immediate impact. These players possess a combination of size, athleticism, and skill that will be a valuable asset to the team. They have the potential to dominate the game on both ends of the floor and contribute to the success of the team.
