As the high school basketball season approaches, fans of Central Valley Christian High School are eager to see how the team will perform. With a talented group of new and returning players, the Central Valley Christian Cavaliers are poised for a successful season. To get a closer look at the team, we interviewed Coach Josh Bergman, who shared his insights and predictions for the upcoming season.
When asked about new players who will make a significant impact on the team, Coach Bergman immediately highlighted three individuals - Caden Lloyd, Gunnar Piepgrass, and Ryan Vander Tuig. All three are seniors who bring something unique to the team. At 6'9'', Lloyd is a force to be reckoned with on the court, excelling at offensive rebounding. Piepgrass offers valuable leadership skills, while Vander Tuig is a defensive specialist.
Together, these three players bring a well-rounded set of skills to the team and are expected to make an immediate impact. When it comes to team captains, Coach Bergman revealed that he looks for players with certain qualities. One such quality is a strong work ethic, which is why freshman Jayden Bergman, the coach's son, has been chosen as one of the captains.
Despite his young age, Bergman displays impressive leadership skills and a fantastic shooting ability. Another captain candidate is sophomore Grant Hyde, who stands out for his length, shooting skills, and defensive abilities. These two players are currently battling for the role of captain, and Coach Bergman is confident that either of them would make an excellent leader for the team.
We also asked Coach Bergman about any changes in his coaching style compared to previous seasons. He mentioned that he has drawn inspiration from coaches such as Mission Prep's Justin Garza and Kingsburg's coach. While he has his style, Coach Bergman is always open to learning and improving his coaching methods to better serve his players.
One aspect that plays a significant role in a team's success is their training and conditioning program. Coach Bergman revealed that there have been significant changes and improvements made to the team's training program. He emphasized the importance of mental toughness, stating that his team does not consist of mentally weak players.
This focus on mental strength and resilience will undoubtedly translate into the team's gameplay and help them overcome challenging situations on the court. When it comes to his coaching philosophy, Coach Bergman emphasizes the importance of a positive team culture and strong work ethic.
