As the upcoming season approaches, the Chichester High School baseball team is gearing up for what they hope will be another successful year. With a strong core of returning players and promising new additions, Coach Daniel Singley is confident in his team's ability to achieve their goals. Leading the pack are the top returning players from last season: Cole Sanford, Zach Murray, Trevor Goschler, Gavin Derrickson, and Julian Sparks. These players have been instrumental in the team's success, with a record of 51 straight wins in the Del-Val League since 2019 and five consecutive league titles. Their grit, work ethic, selflessness, and family atmosphere have been key factors in their dominance on the field. But the team is not resting on their past accomplishments. With the ultimate goal of winning the Del-Val League, making waves in the District 1 playoffs, and reaching states this year, the players are motivated to push themselves to their full potential. Coach Singley instills a sense of selflessness and camaraderie among the team, creating a family atmosphere where everyone helps each other to improve daily. In addition to the returning players, the team will also benefit from the talent of newcomers Evan Valentine and Luke Werley. With the loss of two great former players to graduation, Troy Neff and Josh Claycomb, these new additions will help reload the team. Coach Singley emphasizes the importance of leadership both on and off the field, and players like Cole Sanford, Julian Sparks, Ryan Bartholf, Logan Werley, Alex Kester, Zach Murray, Trevor Goschler, Chase Brown, and Matt Johanson will be vying for captain roles. Team chemistry and camaraderie are crucial elements to the success of any team, and Coach Singley understands this. He motivates his players to push themselves by creating a sense of community within the team. Voluntary weight room sessions twice a week not only help the players physically but also build relationships and a sense of teamwork. The team also focuses on the mental aspect of the game, teaching players to deal with failure and bounce back quickly. This mentality not only applies to baseball but also to life as a whole. As with any team, there are strengths and weaknesses. The team's strong core of returning players and promising newcomers is a major strength. Coach Singley also notes their new indoor/outdoor facilities, which have been a game changer for the school. But he also recognizes the importance of continually improving and plans on playing tougher competition to prepare for playoffs. Coach Singley's coaching philosophy of building a family atmosphere, striving for excellence on and off the field, and pushing each other to reach their full potential is evident in the team's gameplay. The players not only excel on the field, but they also excel in the classroom and in the community. Their success is a testament to their dedication and hard work, as well as Coach Singley's leadership. As the season approaches, the Chichester High School baseball team is ready to take on any challenge. With their strong team chemistry, talented players, and Coach Singley's leadership, they are poised to make another run for the championship. The team's motto of "doing whatever it takes" reflects their determination and drive to achieve their goals. And with the support of their coaches, school, and community, they have all the tools necessary to make it a successful season.
