Clayton Valley High School has a rich history when it comes to sports, particularly in football. But this year, the school's football team is gearing up for another exciting season, with high expectations and a talented roster. We spoke with head coach Jesse Medrano for an inside look into what we can expect from the team this year.
Q: Can you tell us about the team's off-season preparations? A: Our off-season training program has been intense and focused on building strength, speed, and agility. Our players have been hitting the weight room hard and have seen significant gains in their strength and conditioning. We have also been working on our skills and technique during practices, as well as studying film to improve our game strategies and game plans.
Q: What are your thoughts on the team's overall performance in the previous season? A: Last year was a learning experience for us. We had a young team, and we faced tough competition in our league. While we didn't have the record we wanted, we saw a lot of growth and potential in our players. We also had some standout performances from players like our quarterback, who passed for over 2,000 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Q: What key players should we keep an eye out for this year? A: We have a few talented seniors who will be essential to our success this year. Our quarterback, Grant Connolly, is a natural leader and has been working hard in the off-season, both on and off the field. Our wide receiver, Josh Lee, is a speedy and reliable target, while our running back, Dominic Lopez, is a powerful and elusive runner. On defense, keep an eye on our linebacker, Mason Montoya, who is always around the ball, and defensive end, Jalen Glover, who is a force to be reckoned with.
Q: Can you tell us about any new additions to the team? A: We have a few promising new players joining the team this year, including a couple of transfer students who bring a lot of talent and experience to our roster. We also have some talented freshmen who will make an impact on the field and add depth to our team. One of our new players to watch out for is our offensive lineman, Jake Rodriguez, who is a transfer student from a Division I school. Q: What are the team's goals for the season?
