It's an exciting time of year for the Clinton-Massie High School cheerleading team as they prepare for the upcoming season. Coach Christy Addison is looking to build upon last season's successes and push her team to reach their full potential. With a mix of experienced players and new talent, the team is ready to showcase their creativity, talent, and dedication on the field and in the gym.
When asked about the top returning players from last season, Coach Addison mentions the key qualities that make them stand out. She notes their ability to bring new energy and creativity to the team, something that is always welcomed by veterans. In addition, she looks for players who are committed, and hardworking, and bring positivity and enthusiasm to the team.
These returning players will play an important role in leading and mentoring the new freshmen and blending them into the squad. Team captains are another key aspect of the team and Coach Addison has specific qualities in mind when selecting them. She looks for players who possess leadership skills, are positive role models for their teammates, and have a strong understanding of teamwork.
As for the current team, Coach Addison mentions that they are in the process of deciding on captains and there are a few players who are competing for the role. To motivate her players to push themselves to their full potential, Coach Addison has several strategies in place. She believes in the power of positive reinforcement, encouraging her players to not use the word "can't" and instead focus on perseverance and practice.
Additionally, she plans on implementing team-building activities and a big and little sister program to promote camaraderie and trust among the team. This season, the biggest challenge for Coach Addison has been teaching all the new cheers and halftime dances she hopes the team will perform.
However, she has big goals for her team and is confident that with hard work and determination, they will be able to achieve them. As for the team's schedule, there are some tough opponents they will face, but Coach Addison is looking forward to the challenge and believes it will only make her team stronger.
One of the changes Coach Addison has made to the team's training and conditioning program is focusing less on weight training and more on stretching, core work, and bodyweight strength training. This shift in focus will help the team improve their stunts and jumps, which are crucial elements in their performances. Every team has their strengths and weaknesses, and Coach Addison is aware of both for her team.
