As the Clinton-Massie Girls Varsity Golf team turns the page toward a new season, Head Coach Jimmy Brady is focused on both continuity and growth. Following the graduation of standout golfer Grace Boone, who now competes at the collegiate level, the team enters the offseason determined to raise its game. Offseason Focus: Filling Big Shoes and Gaining Ground “This offseason has been about becoming more consistent and stronger,” said Coach Brady. With two key spots to fill—most notably that of Boone, a district qualifier and two-time league player of the year—the Falcons are working hard to maintain their competitive edge. Leadership will be crucial, and returning players are rising to the challenge. Offseason Events: Gearing Up for Competitive Play While the schedule is still being finalized, the team is already locked in for at least two invitationals this season, with hopes of adding more. These tournaments not only serve as a test of skill but also provide valuable opportunities for team bonding and game-time experience. Roster Moves: Fresh Faces, Familiar Drive The team bids farewell to Grace Boone and Lauren Edwards, but welcomes two promising additions: Zoey Purvis and Renni Sagraves. These new faces will look to make their mark early as the team adapts to its evolving lineup. Players to Watch: Eyes on the Prize The Falcons return a talented core led by Stormie Stroud, who’s earned 1st Team All-League honors two years running and is a strong candidate for League Player of the Year. Rylee Long and Charlotte Robinson, also 1st Team All-League selections, return alongside Sammi Van Pelt, a 2nd Team All-League honoree. Several players have spent the offseason competing in local junior golf events, giving them valuable tournament experience heading into the season. Training & Fitness: Sharpening the Edge Offseason preparation has included sessions in the school’s golf facility and time in the weight room to build strength, critical for improved distance and endurance. The emphasis on physical training reflects the team's commitment to peak performance. Coaching Strategy: Empowering the Team Coach Brady and his staff are embracing a more player-driven approach this season. “We’re looking to challenge them to be more independent, taking on more roles within the team,” he said. The team is also shifting its focus toward invitationals rather than dual matches, aiming to compete more frequently in larger, high-stakes environments. Biggest Challenge: Replacing a Star The Falcons face a tall task in replacing Boone’s leadership and performance. However, with a strong returning core and an energized coaching philosophy, the team is poised to take on the challenge head-on.
