After an unforgettable run to the CIF semifinal championship last season, Cornerstone Christian Football is gearing up for a shot at even more success in 2025. Head Coach Anthony Cabadas, in his second year as head coach, has the team focused on one thing: grinding to reach new heights.
Offseason Focus: Pushing for the Next Level
Last season, Cornerstone made history by advancing to the CIF semifinals, but injuries derailed their shot at the title. “We were down six starters going into the game and lost four during it,” Coach Cabadas said. Despite the tough break, the team’s heart and effort made it their best season ever. This offseason, the goal is simple: grind harder every day and fight for an even deeper playoff run.
Special Offseason Events: Preparing for the Future
To help the team’s key players develop, Cornerstone has joined the Swamp Boyz 7v7 Next Gen Passing League. The league will give all-CIF MVP quarterback Dylan Kelly, who is entering his junior year, a chance to refine his timing, footwork, and hands with his playmakers. “This will get our guys ready for the season ahead,” Coach Cabadas added.
Roster Updates: Rising Stars Ready to Lead
The sophomore class, which will be entering their junior year, is ready to make a mark on the program. “Our sophomore core is going to step up big time,” Cabadas said, noting their potential to lead the team this season.
Players to Watch
Dylan Kelly (QB, Junior): The returning all-league and all-CIF player is coming off a stellar season and will look to continue his dominance as he leads the offense in his second year as the starter.
Matthew Huffman (RB, Junior): With over 1,000 rushing yards and 1,500 total yards last season, Huffman will be a key piece of the offense once again.
Cooper Lewin (WR/DB/RB/K, Junior): A versatile player who finished 4th in California for kick return yards, Lewin also holds the school record for the longest interception return for a touchdown.
Coach Cabadas, the reigning Coach of the Year, is looking forward to another successful season where the goal isn’t just winning, but achieving greatness as a football family. “We’re not just playing for titles; we’re playing for each other, and for the Lord’s name,” he said.
Coaching Approach: Faith & Strength
As a small school with fewer than 100 high school students, Coach Cabadas is focused not just on developing athletes but on developing young men of faith. “It’s about leading them in the Lord’s name, but still being violent and in control on the field,” he emphasized. The balance between faith and physicality will continue to guide the team’s approach.
Challenges Ahead: Small School, Big Goals
While Cornerstone faces the challenge of being a small school, the passion and drive of the players and staff are unmatched. “We’re a family,” Cabadas said, “and we’re ready to show the world what this team can do.”
With a blend of rising stars, a fierce offseason mindset, and a coach committed to both faith and football, Cornerstone Christian Football is ready to continue its historic run.
