Season Recap: A Championship Run
The Cornwall Central High School girls' basketball team capped off an impressive 2024–25 campaign with a 16-4 record, finishing as co-champions of their league. Securing the No. 2 playoff seed, the team battled to the semifinals, ultimately falling short of their championship goal. Still, Head Coach Dan Lang praised his squad’s resilience and work ethic.
“This team overcame adversity and played for each other every night,” said Coach Lang. “Their effort, unity, and resilience defined our season.”
Key Contributors
Several players played vital roles in Cornwall’s success, including:
Karis Addison – The team’s only senior and undisputed leader, Addison brought high energy, elite performance, and leadership both on and off the court.
Tessa Furst
Emma Walsh
Jean Lawrence
Emme Shapiro
Emily Olsen
Ana Sonko
Each of these athletes contributed significantly on both ends of the court, pushing Cornwall to one of its best seasons in recent memory.
Resilience in Adversity
The Dragons dealt with their fair share of challenges, including injuries and a flu outbreak that altered the lineup multiple times. Despite this, the team responded with toughness and unity, stepping up whenever adversity struck.
“Everyone stepped up, and that’s what made us have a successful season,” Lang noted.
Breakout Players
Two players stood out for their growth during the season:
Tessa Furst (Jr.) – Developed into a key contributor and leader.
Ana Sonko (Fr.) – Emerged as a rising star and showcased her potential for the future.
Senior Spotlight: Karis Addison
Karis Addison’s impact can’t be overstated. As the lone senior, she was the heart and soul of the team.
“She was our battery,” Lang said. “Her energy and play left a lasting mark on the Cornwall girls basketball program.”
Looking Ahead
With almost the entire team returning, the Dragons are motivated by what Coach Lang calls a “sour taste” from the semifinal loss. The group has already shown they are hungry for more.
“We have unfinished business,” Lang said. “And from talking to the team, I can tell they are ready to work.”
Offseason Focus
The goal for the offseason is simple but powerful: get 1% better every day. Coach Lang is pushing both players and himself to elevate their performance and commitment across the board.
Bright Future for Cornwall Girls Basketball
With talent, depth, leadership, and a championship mindset, the Cornwall Girls Basketball program is positioned for another special season in 2025–26, and this time, they’re aiming to finish the job.
