Corsica-Stickney Volleyball Eyes a Breakout Year with Veteran Core Offseason Focus: Control, Aggression & Building Momentum With nearly the entire roster returning from last season, the Jaguars are focusing on enhancing control and playing with more aggression. “We only lost one player from last season,” said Coach Hongslo, “so we’re excited to build on that experience and raise our level.” Summer Development: Team Camp at Sanford Pentagon Corsica-Stickney will attend the Sanford Pentagon Team Camp in Sioux Falls on June 26–27, a highlight of their offseason. College coaches run 6-on-6 drills and the team competes against other schools, making it an important time for growth, chemistry, and evaluation. Roster Updates: Returning Core + Position Shakeups The team graduated just one senior — a right-side hitter — and hopes to welcome back a key player who missed all of last season due to injury. A potential shift from a 6-2 to a 5-1 offense is also being considered, depending on summer performance and setter development. Players to Watch: Club Standouts Leading the Way Keep an eye on these names: Sophie DeLange – Senior, Middle/Setter Braylee Bordewyk – Junior, Middle/Outside Hitter/Setter Cali Vanden Hoek – Senior, Libero Hadynn Johnson – Sophomore, Outside Hitter Sophie, Cali, and Hadynn all had standout performances during their club seasons with Kusler Klinics Volleyball and continue to show dedication with extra summer reps and leadership. Strength & Fitness: Summer Grind in Full Swing The Jaguars are lifting as a team three times a week during the summer. Alongside that, open gyms are focused on technical improvement and team-building. “The girls work hard together. It’s a tight-knit group that pushes each other,” said Hongslo. Coaching Strategy: Always Evolving Coach Hongslo stays sharp by coaching club volleyball and regularly researching new drills and strategies. Her commitment to evolving as a coach directly benefits the players and the program. Community Support: Small Town, Big Backing Corsica-Stickney is proud of its close relationship with fans and the local community. The support system around the team adds fuel to the players’ motivation and pride. Challenges Ahead: Pressure to Perform With high expectations and a returning core from a team that reached the region finals, the main challenge this year will be mental — handling pressure and staying focused. “There’s a lot of excitement and potential, but we’ll need to stay sharp under pressure,” said Coach Hongslo.
