Culver City, CA — The 2024-25 season was one for the record books for the Culver City High School boys basketball team. Under the leadership of Head Coach Ray Singleton, the Centaurs notched an impressive 22-7 record — the most wins in program history — and earned a berth in the CIF playoffs, despite falling in the first round. “It was a successful season by all measures,” said Coach Singleton. “We made history with our win total, and this group of seniors set a new standard for commitment, leadership, and grit.” Senior Leadership Fueled Success Leading the charge were seniors Myles Singleton, Braylon Singleton, Mark Forte, Cole Zeno, and Emmanuel Gillam. Myles and Braylon — twin brothers and four-year varsity starters in both basketball and football — were the heart of the team. Myles earned Most Outstanding Player honors in the Ocean League, while Braylon was named to the league’s First Team. Both will continue their athletic careers on full football scholarships at Northern University. “Those two were relentless on both ends of the floor,” said Singleton. “Their tenacity and leadership are irreplaceable.” Mark Forte, another two-sport athlete, contributed as a dependable shooter and a tough defender, earning Second Team All-Ocean League honors. Zeno was recognized as the team’s Most Improved Player, embracing any role needed and frequently taking on top defensive assignments. Gillam also played a key part in the team's success. Younger Talent Emerged While the seniors laid the foundation, juniors William Forte and Jordan Njoku played key roles and are set to lead the team next season. Njoku, a three-year varsity football player, anchored the defense with his strength and physicality, earning Second Team All-League honors. Forte, known for his raw athleticism and versatility, developed significantly throughout the year and became a consistent contributor. “William really came into his own this year,” said Coach Singleton. “And Jordan is our strongest player — he’ll be the backbone of our defense again next year.” Season Highlights and Challenges Despite their playoff exit against Brentwood — a game where key players were battling the flu — the season’s highlights far outweighed the setbacks. “That loss doesn’t take away from what we accomplished,” said Singleton. “We dealt with adversity, stayed focused, and kept winning.” A Promising Future With key returners like Forte and Njoku and rising players Evan Powell, Demarion Boyd, and Oliver Reeves, the future is bright for Culver City basketball. The offseason focus is on physical development, conditioning, and skill enhancement. “We’re rebuilding, but we’re not starting from scratch,” said Singleton. “We’re building on something strong.” Stats are typically available on Hudl, though the school’s account is currently down due to financial constraints.
