The DC Everest Senior High School girls' cross-country team is gearing up for another exciting and challenging season. After a successful season last year, the team is determined to continue their winning streak and make their mark in the state championships. With a group of dedicated and talented athletes, led by Coach Allisha Blanchette, the team is ready to take on any obstacles thrown their way. One of the key factors contributing to the team's success is their strong returning players. Among them are some top-performing runners who have stood out in the past season. These include seniors Sarah Johnson and Emma Wilson, as well as juniors Lily Brown and Grace Peterson. These girls have shown great determination and perseverance on the track and have proven themselves as valuable assets to the team. But what truly sets these girls apart is their strong team spirit and support for one another. Coach Blanchette stresses the importance of building a supportive environment for each runner, creating a sense of camaraderie and unity within the team. This not only helps each reach their full potential but also leads to overall improvement as a team. The team's motto of "strength of the pack" is a testament to this belief and serves as a driving force for the team's success. In addition to the returning players, the team has some promising new members who are expected to make an immediate impact. Coach Blanchette praises the leadership qualities of these incoming freshmen who have already shown great dedication and enthusiasm for the sport. This, coupled with their natural talent, is sure to be a winning combination for the team. When it comes to selecting team captains, Coach Blanchette looks for qualities such as leadership, team mentality, and dedication. This year, seniors Emma Wilson and Grace Peterson are the team captains and are determined to lead the team to victory. However, Coach Blanchette also commends the entire team on their understanding of the team concept and willingness to support and help each other during tough practices and races. One of the biggest challenges the team has faced this year is preparing for the transition to a 5K race. However, Coach Blanchette's approach of intrinsic motivation and team bonding activities has helped the girls stay focused and motivated. They engage in community service projects, such as cleaning up trash and participating in grade school run and play events, showcasing their dedication not only to the sport, but also to the community.
