Developing a Competitive Edge Through Ball Control and Mental Toughness As Dock Mennonite Academy’s girls' volleyball team prepares for the upcoming season, Head Coach Logan Hunsberger is leading a focused and intentional offseason. With a young roster and a lot of potential, the team is emphasizing ball control and aggressive serving as the foundation for success. “If we can get our opponents out of the system, it gives us a greater chance at success,” said Hunsberger. The coaching staff is laser-focused on the fundamentals, understanding that controlling the pace of play and putting pressure on opponents with consistent serves can be the difference-maker. A Youth Movement with Big Potential While Dock bids farewell to some key senior leaders, the excitement around the emerging young talent in the program is unmistakable. Though the roster may lack veteran presence, the hunger and energy from younger players are fueling optimism. “We’re a young team, but we’re excited to see what our players can offer this upcoming season.” It’s a season of opportunity for new faces to step into big roles—and Coach Hunsberger believes several are ready to rise to the challenge. Training the Mind and Body for Game Day Pressure Dock Volleyball isn’t just focused on the physical game. A core element of their offseason philosophy is building mental toughness—a trait that can make or break close matches. “We want our girls to be mentally stronger than the team on the other side of the court,” said Hunsberger. “We study elite athletes and lean into the experiences of our coaching staff to prepare our girls mentally.” By strengthening both mindset and mechanics, the program is building a well-rounded approach to high-pressure competition. Making a Difference Off the Court In the spirit of service, Dock Volleyball continues to make an impact beyond the gym. Last preseason, the team visited a retirement home in Souderton, where they played balloon volleyball with residents and shared heartfelt moments. “The girls were amazing—they showed their big hearts and brought so many smiles. It was a beautiful way to share Christ’s love,” Hunsberger said. This kind of outreach not only builds community connections but also reinforces the values the team stands for. The Road Ahead: Stepping Into the Spotlight With limited upperclassman presence, one of the biggest challenges this season will be inexperience at the varsity level. But Coach Hunsberger sees that not as a setback, but as an exciting storyline. “We’ll need new leaders to step up—and I believe they’re ready. It’s going to be an exciting season to watch.” With a blend of passion, preparation, and purpose, the Dock Mennonite Academy girls' volleyball team is poised to take the next step—and maybe even turn a few heads along the way.
