A Preview of Donovan High School's Girls Basketball Team This Season
With the start of the high school basketball season just around the corner, the Donovan High School girl's basketball team is gearing up for an exciting year. The team, coached by Lane Walters, has been working hard in the off-season to improve their skills and build upon their strengths.
Coach Walters is optimistic about the upcoming season and believes that this year's team has the potential to make a significant impact. We had the chance to speak with Coach Walters about his expectations for the team this year and his thoughts on the players.
When asked about the top returning players from last season, Coach Walters didn't hesitate to mention two standout athletes. Senior Laylah Lou Walters, daughter of the coach, and senior Tiffany DeYoung are both returning to the team and are expected to make a big impact. Laylah, who has already made a name for herself in the Daily Journal All-Area team, averaged 13.7 points per game last season.
Her scoring ability and solid defense make her a crucial member of the team. On the other hand, DeYoung is coming off a successful season where she averaged 10.1 rebounds per game. She will be a key player on the defense, providing strength and stability to the team.
Coach Walters also mentioned two new players who he believes will make an immediate impact on the team this season. Junior Lily Fox and freshmen Bailey Henneike and Chloe Ponton are all expected to contribute significantly to the team's success. Fox and Henneike will bring their skills to the offensive game, while Ponton will add height and physicality to the team's defense. Their addition to the team will provide much-needed depth and diversity, and Coach Walters is excited to see what they can bring to the court.
Like every successful team, Donovan's girls' basketball team has strong leadership from its captains. Senior Tiffany DeYoung and junior Laylah Lou Walters will lead the team on and off the court this season. Coach Walters praises their positive attitude and strong work ethic, which sets a good example for the rest of the team. Their leadership will be essential in creating team chemistry and camaraderie amongst the players. As a coach, motivating players to push themselves to their full potential is a crucial aspect of the job.
