The Eads High School basketball team is gearing up for another exciting season of competition. After making a state tournament appearance last year, the team has set its sights on returning to the "big dance" and making a strong impression by winning games at the tournament. In an exclusive interview, Coach Trey Eder shares his insights on the team's goals, strengths and weaknesses, and the players who will lead the way.
Coach Eder's overall goal for the team this season is to build on the previous year's success and make a statement at the state tournament. To achieve this, the players will need to focus on two key factors: their defense and offensive efficiency. The team’s defense will need to step up and shut down opponents, while the offense needs to continue to develop and be efficient. Success in these areas will be crucial in helping the team reach their ultimate goal.
When asked about the top returning players from last season, Coach Eder wasted no time in highlighting some of the team’s most talented players. Anna Wollert, only a sophomore, stands out for her size and skill which allows her to play both inside and outside. Tailee Weeks-Johnson, a junior, is known for her leadership and shooting abilities. Alessandra Paez, a senior, brings consistency to both ends of the floor. Bailey Sierra, a sophomore, contributes with her intense defense, while junior Lexi Shotton's overall hustle and ability to adjust make her a valuable asset to the team.
Junior Kara Wilson's return from a knee injury brings leadership and intensity to the court. In addition to the returning players, there are also some new faces on the team that Coach Eder believes will make an immediate impact. Freshman Jordynn Turcotte has put in extra time during the summer to improve her skills, making her an athletic player who will undoubtedly have an impact.
Another freshman, Aspen Nelson, stands out for her coachability and competitive fire. Facing a tough schedule this season, Coach Eder acknowledges that the team will be up against some strong opponents. The league they compete in is one of the most competitive in 1A basketball, and every game will be a challenge. The non-league schedule also presents new competition that the team has not faced before, which will add another layer of difficulty. When asked if his coaching style differs from previous seasons, Coach Eder says that the team will stick to what has worked for them in the past.
