The Elite Scholars Academy basketball team is entering the 2019-2020 season with high hopes and a strong roster. Led by Coach Jason Greenlee, the team is looking to make a statement in their new region, Single A D2 Region 7, and earn a spot in the GHSA postseason. With a strong core of returning players and talented newcomers, the team is ready to face any challenges that come their way. The top returning players from last season are senior Jordan Miller, junior Jerel Clark, and junior Xavier Jones. They bring a variety of skills and leadership qualities to the team, making them special in their ways. Jordan Miller, known as the best two-way player from last season, earned 1st-team all-region honors and is a crucial player in the team's press defense. Jerel Clark is a dynamic scorer who can efficiently score at all levels and is a threat on both offense and defense. Xavier Jones, the floor general of the team, is known for his poise and adaptability on the court, making him a key player in any situation. Coach Greenlee has his eye on sophomores Jeremiah Janvier and Asa Mitchell as potential team captains. He looks for qualities such as athletic prowess, playmaking ability, and effective leadership in choosing team captains. Both Jeremiah and Asa possess these qualities and have emerged as key players on the team. However, Coach Greenlee stresses the importance of team chemistry and camaraderie, and ultimately, it was the team who elected senior Jordan Miller and junior Xavier Jones as the team captains for the upcoming season. Team chemistry and camaraderie are crucial components for any successful team, and the Elite Scholars Academy basketball team has it in abundance. Coach Greenlee attributes this to the organic development of their bond and the fact that everyone on the team is committed to winning and putting the team before their egos. Additionally, the team's offensive system allows for all players to contribute and be involved, making basketball fun and fostering a positive team dynamic. One of the biggest challenges in preparing for this season has been adapting to the new region and facing tough opponents. But Coach Greenlee approaches every opponent with the same level of respect and believes in giving his best effort in every game. This season's schedule will test the team's abilities, but they are ready for the challenge.
