As the new basketball season approaches, fans and supporters of the Fenwick High School team are eager to see what this year's team has in store. We had the pleasure of speaking with Coach Lenae Fergerson to get a preview of the team and their goals for the season. According to Coach Fergerson, the top returning players from last season are seniors Keira Kapsch, Zoe Dray, and Clare Murphy.
These three players have the experience and skill to be leaders on the court. Keira, a forward, brings versatility and a strong shooting presence to the team. Zoe, a power forward, is known for her aggressive defense and ability to grab rebounds. And Clare, a center, is a force to be reckoned with under the basket. Coach Fergerson also mentioned key junior players Darryelle Smith, Heaven Lee, and Cammie Molis who have all been part of the team for three years and have developed a strong chemistry together.
What sets these returning players apart is their dedication and love for playing together. This chemistry on and off the court is a crucial factor in the team's success. As Coach Fergerson says, "There is chemistry and camaraderie on and off the court." This team bond will undoubtedly help them gel together and compete consistently. But it's not just the returning players who will make an impact this season.
Coach Fergerson also has high hopes for a few new players joining the team. With a deeper roster this year, it will be interesting to see which players step up and make an immediate impact on the team. When it comes to choosing team captains, Coach Fergerson looks for players who possess qualities such as leadership, dedication, and a strong work ethic.
While the official captains have not been decided yet, she mentioned that she has a strong and competitive group of players vying for the role. To motivate her players to reach their full potential, Coach Fergerson stresses the importance of teamwork and pushing each other to be the best versions of themselves. This focus on team chemistry and unity will be vital in achieving their goal this season.
One of the biggest challenges the team has faced in preparing for this season is the rough start they had last year. Coach Fergerson believes that this experience has driven the girls to work harder and push each other in practice to ensure they have a stronger start this season.
