After capturing a state championship, the bar has been set high for Floyd E. Kellam High School boys' volleyball. But for Head Coach Aaron Campbell and his staff, the mindset is clear: stay humble, stay hungry, and keep developing. The Knights are using their offseason wisely, focusing on fundamentals and chemistry as they prepare to defend their title in 2025.
Offseason Focus
The main offseason focus has been ball control, the backbone of consistent volleyball. "If you can’t better each ball, the team won’t succeed,” says Coach Campbell. Particular attention is being paid to serve receive, recognizing that a strong first touch lays the foundation for a successful rally.
Special Offseason Events
While VHSL rules prevent official high school team competitions during the offseason, many of Kellam’s athletes stay sharp through travel volleyball, competing across the East Coast. In addition, the team regularly gathers for open gyms and sand volleyball sessions at local rec centers, fostering year-round chemistry and bonding.
Notable Additions & Departures
The team will look different in the fall, with a large portion of last year’s starting lineup graduating. However, the returning squad has proven its strength, often matching or outplaying the championship starters in practice scrimmages. A standout addition is an incoming freshman libero, already showing advanced skills and maturity. Also joining the coaching staff is a former Kellam setter and current club coach, bringing fresh insight and experience to the bench.

"We’ve got a lot of new tricks coming in this season," says Campbell, hinting at fresh tactics and player development tools designed to elevate the team.
Fan Engagement & Community Impact
The support from the Kellam community has been nothing short of incredible. Winning a state title only intensified the love, and fans remain a key part of the Knights’ momentum. “It gives one side a huge advantage,” Coach Campbell notes, emphasizing the vital role the crowd plays in energizing the team.
Biggest Challenges Ahead
