As the start of the new season for high school volleyball approaches, many are eager to see what the Fremont Ross High School team has in store for the year. With a new coach at the helm and several key players returning to the court, expectations are high for this year's team. I recently had the opportunity to speak with Coach Erin Dircksen about the team's goals, returning and new players, schedule, and training program for the upcoming season.
One of the first questions that comes to mind when looking at any team is, who are the top returning players from last season? For Fremont Ross High School, Coach Dircksen names Lyndi Wolf, Sydney Weickert, Kilee Kidd, and Brook Baacke as standouts. Wolf, a middle hitter, is described as a commanding presence on the court and a true competitor.
Weickert, who primarily played as a DS (defensive specialist) last season, brings athleticism and a high volleyball IQ that will be beneficial in the team's setter needs. Kidd and Baacke are both approaching their own as strong outside hitters and have stepped up as vocal and positive leaders on the team. These returning players will play a crucial role in leading the team to success this season. But it's not just the returning players that will make an impact on the team this year.
Coach Dircksen also highlights a few new additions who she believes will make an immediate impact. Lyndi Wolf, Sydney Weickert, Kilee Kidd, and Brook Baacke as standouts. Coach Dircksen mentions that the girls have set high goals for themselves and to achieve them, they will have to face some tough opponents.
However, they are not backing down from the challenge and are excited for the opportunity to play against some of the best teams in the area.
