Globe High Cross Country Eyes Breakthrough Season in 2025 Offseason Focus: Faster, Stronger, Sharper With a maturing roster and several upperclassmen leading the way, Globe High Cross Country is entering a critical turning point in its program development. After two years of being primarily freshman- and sophomore-led, the team is now poised to compete more seriously in the region. “Our offseason goal is simple—get faster,” said Head Coach Isaac Mitchell. “We’re putting a lot of focus into improving our 5K times and becoming more competitive as a unit.” No Camps, But No Off Switch Either While the team isn’t attending formal camps or tournaments this summer, many runners are staying active on their own. Notably, a couple of girls have been participating in wrestling, which Coach Mitchell notes is “a great way to build strength and stamina ahead of the fall season.” Roster News: Leadership Steps Up The biggest change heading into the season is the graduation of Senior Neveah Guerrero, a veteran presence. Coach Mitchell has not yet met the incoming freshman class but is already encouraged by the returning core. Athletes to Watch: Senior Surge Expected Isabel Rascon-Perez: A senior and newly named team captain, Isabel has consistently run strong races but is aiming to elevate her performance this year. “She has the drive to break away from the pack,” says Mitchell. Ellie Dillon-Lott: A standout sophomore with big potential. After a promising freshman season, she’s expected to take a big leap this fall. Barbarino Gilbert & Easton Phillips: These two senior runners have been pushing each other in training, creating a healthy rivalry that’s driving down their times. “I believe they can drastically improve this year,” Mitchell added. Coaching Outlook: Changes on the Horizon There may be a new addition to the coaching staff this year. While not yet confirmed, duties are expected to be split to provide more individualized attention to runners. Challenges Ahead: Breaking Through For Coach Mitchell and his team, the biggest hurdle is mental and strategic: breaking through to the next level. “We’ve struggled to take that next step as a team. This year, we need to set clear, tangible goals and chase them together.” Fan and Community Engagement While the offseason outreach has been limited, Coach Mitchell acknowledges the potential for growth in this area—and with a stronger, more experienced squad, there’s plenty for Globe fans to get excited about this fall.
