Hanford High School Wrestling Season Preview

Hanford, CA — In a landmark season for Hanford High School Girls Wrestling, Ariel Reyes etched her name in school history by becoming the first female wrestler to qualify for the CIF State Championships. Led by head coach Ronnie Reyes, the team showed growth, grit, and promise for the future. Season Highlights Senior Ariel Reyes and freshman Cerissa Castillo were the anchors of the squad. Both captured league titles and battled through tough brackets at the Divisional and Valley levels. Ariel Reyes – Team captain and inspirational leader, Ariel won the League, took 2nd at Divisionals, and 5th at Valley. After a six-month injury layoff, she returned with unmatched dedication, training at camps and gyms on weekends and in the offseason. Her clutch win in the final Valley match secured her historic state berth, continuing a family tradition — she became the fourth Reyes sibling to compete at the state level. Cerissa Castillo – A rising star, Cerissa also won League, placed 3rd at Divisionals, and went 1-2 at Valley — a strong showing for a freshman. Like her captain, Cerissa beat an opponent at Divisionals who had previously defeated her during the regular season, showing rapid growth and resilience. Team Development & Culture This year’s team demonstrated the power of leadership and perseverance. Ariel’s return from injury not only boosted the lineup but also inspired her teammates to push harder. “She put in the work and showed others what it takes,” said Coach Reyes. Though Ariel was the team’s only senior, her presence left a lasting impact on the underclassmen, helping to establish a culture of commitment, motivation, and belief. Looking Ahead Coach Reyes is excited about the future of Hanford Girls Wrestling. “Three years ago, we had one girl. Now we have ten,” he said. With a core of eager, improving wrestlers, the foundation is set for continued success.
