As the lacrosse season approaches, the Heritage High School team is gearing up for another year of hard work, dedication, and improvement. To match the successes of the past two years, Coach Michael Mattison and his team are ready to take on the challenges of the upcoming season. When asked about the top returning players from last season, Coach Mattison highlights Danica Doskocil, Madison Sartori, and Arabella Mattison. These players have all honed their stickwork and possess a strong understanding of the game. They also show a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication, which will be crucial in leading the team to success. But it's not just the returning players that Coach Mattison is counting on. He believes that new players Yahaira Sevillano-Franco, Rylee Remenar, and Emma Baker will all make an immediate impact on the team. With their addition, the team will have a good balance of experienced players and fresh talent. Leadership is an essential quality for any successful team, and Coach Mattison looks for this in potential team captains. He believes that they should be role models who lead by example, have strong communication skills, and relate well to their teammates. Currently, the team is still in the process of selecting captains, but he has high hopes for all his players and their potential to lead the team. Team chemistry and camaraderie are crucial components of a successful team. For Coach Mattison, this means that the team captains will organize bonding activities to bring the team closer together. Additionally, conditioning is also an important factor in building team chemistry and improving players' endurance and speed. Motivating players to push themselves to their full potential is no easy feat, especially in a competitive sport like lacrosse. But for Coach Mattison, it all comes down to setting individual goals and regularly checking in with players to monitor their progress. By setting achievable goals and continuously striving to improve, he hopes to inspire his players to always give their best effort. Preparation for the season has had its challenges, with half the team still playing soccer and the season starting. But Coach Mattison remains positive and focused on making sure each player has individual goals and continues to progress throughout the season. The team's schedule this season includes some challenging opponents such as Chaparral, Great Oak, Laguna Beach, King, and Roosevelt. But Coach Mattison doesn't look at the team's schedule as an obstacle.
