Hesperia High School's wrestling team has been steadily growing and improving under the guidance of Coach Gino Griffith. With a group of determined and hardworking athletes, this year's team has the potential to make a huge impact on the wrestling scene. As we look ahead to the upcoming season, let's take a closer look at the team and see what lies ahead. First and foremost, let's talk about the returning players from last season. Coach Griffith is excited about the team's top returning players, as they possess the qualities of strong leaders with a competitive drive. Among the top returning players are Dylan Garcia, Max Stevenson, and Landin Arguelles. These wrestlers have been a part of the program for some time now and their experience and skills will prove to be invaluable to the team. However, Coach Griffith is also looking forward to the new players on the team who will make an immediate impact. Paulo Valdez and Emiliano Hernandez are two newcomers who are not only great wrestlers but also have a strong presence in the wrestling room and are great leaders. With their competitive drive, they will surely push the team to work harder and strive for success. When it comes to selecting team captains, Coach Griffith looks for the all-around student-athlete. Discipline, accountability, and work ethic are some of the qualities that he values in potential captains. While there are many new faces on the team this season, Coach Griffith is confident that Dylan Garcia, Max Stevenson, and Landin Arguelles will be shining examples of leaders to watch. Aside from skills and experience, Coach Griffith also emphasizes the importance of team chemistry and camaraderie. He believes that a strong bond and good communication within the team are crucial for success. To foster this, the team not only spends time together during practices and travel but also participates in team games and gaming tournaments to break up the hard work. Preparing for this season has not been without its challenges. Fundraising has been a main stress as the team tries to find different ideas and manage the different backgrounds of the group. However, Coach Griffith believes in discipline over motivation and encourages his athletes to remain disciplined even during tough times. In terms of the team's schedule, Coach Griffith strives to create a competitive schedule every year. Other than the postseason, he looks forward to the Doc B and 5 counties tournaments. These tough opponents will provide the team with the opportunity to showcase their skills and continue to improve throughout the season.
