The J.W. Mitchell JV Girls Basketball team delivered a powerhouse performance in the 2024-25 season, finishing with an impressive 20-2 record and consistently outscoring opponents by nearly 20 points per game. Under the leadership of Head Coach Ryan Reinhart, the team not only racked up wins but also captured the Keswick Christian JV Tournament Championship, a clear highlight and defining moment of the season. Key Contributors and Standouts A major driving force behind the team’s success was Tania Hunter, who led by example throughout the season and set the tone for the team’s focus and consistency. She was a key presence both on the court and as a leader in the locker room. Freshman point guard Yana Hunter emerged as a crucial playmaker before being sidelined for a brief period. During her absence, the front court trio of Anya Dziena, Tania Hunter, and Jireh Crenshaw stepped up to maintain the team's momentum. Another player who blossomed as the season went on was Avery Pico, whose development added depth and versatility to the lineup. Responding to Adversity The Mustangs demonstrated impressive poise when challenged with injuries or pressure situations. Losing their starting point guard temporarily could have derailed the season, but the team's collective effort ensured continued success. This resilience became a defining characteristic of their season. Building a Strong Foundation While the team will graduate Tania Hunter, whose leadership was invaluable, the future remains bright. Five players will return, and Coach Reinhart is expecting 10 incoming 8th graders from a middle school team that went 8-0—a promising sign for sustained success. Offseason Goals With such a strong foundation in place, the focus now shifts to improving jump shooting to elevate offensive efficiency and expand the team’s scoring threats for next season.
