Following a year of strong performances and senior leadership, the Jamesville-Dewitt Boys Cross Country team enters a pivotal offseason—one focused on growth, development, and identifying the next generation of leaders. Offseason Focus: Steady Progress, Season to Season Coach John Lenish is guiding his runners with a long-term, year-round mindset. “Our focus has been to continue improving through indoor track, outdoor track, and into the summer,” said Lenish. “The training never stops.” Summer Plans: Runs at Green Lakes While there are no formal camps or meets lined up this summer, the team will come together for regular group runs at Green Lakes State Park—a favorite local spot that also builds team chemistry. Roster Outlook: 7 Seniors Departing, Opportunity for New Stars Jamesville-Dewitt bids farewell to seven graduating seniors, creating plenty of opportunities for underclassmen to rise. “We’re excited to see who steps up next year,” Coach Lenish said. Breakout Watch: Ryan Bennett One underclassman already turning heads is freshman Ryan Bennett. “He had an outstanding indoor track season and continues to build on that progress,” Lenish noted. “He’s doing all the right things, and it’s showing in his results.” Training Highlights: Plyometrics for Strength & Mobility While the team focuses on running mileage, they’re also incorporating plyometric exercises into their routine for increased strength and mobility—a key differentiator that helps prevent injury and boost performance. Fueling Up: Nutrition Basics for Peak Performance Coach Lenish keeps the nutrition advice simple and effective: “Lots of carbs and protein—it’s what these athletes need to power through training and recover the right way.” Coaching Perspective: Always Learning Coach Lenish is always looking for ways to elevate the program. “I’m constantly improving—learning from other coaches, taking input from upperclassmen, and staying up to date with new training ideas online.” Biggest Challenge: Youth and Rebuilding With a large group of seniors moving on, the team will be young. But Lenish sees it as an opportunity: “We’ve got a very young team, but I’m excited to see how we can build and improve together. There’s a lot of potential in this group.” The Red Rams may be entering a transition year, but the culture of commitment and development is strong. With new talent rising and a coach committed to progress, Jamesville-Dewitt is laying the groundwork for future success.
