As the new basketball season approaches, all eyes are on the John F. Kennedy High School team. After an impressive outing last year, the team shows great potential for continued growth and success. To provide some insight on what to expect from our beloved team, we sat down with Head Coach Jamar Baker for a preview article. Coach Baker shared that the team has set some important goals for this season.
These include keeping players healthy, winning the league championship, advancing past the first round of playoffs, and achieving a team GPA of 3.0. These goals not only showcase the team's determination to succeed on the court but also their commitment to excellence in all aspects of their lives. Coach Baker emphasizes that working towards these goals will help the team become not only a strong and competitive team but also a well-rounded and successful one.
When asked about the top returning players from last season, Coach Baker highlighted the importance of having Keana and Morgan back for their senior year. Keana's consistency and leadership on the court, coupled with her academic achievements, make her a valuable player both on and off the court. Morgan's dedication and hard work ethic set a great example for the rest of the team, and her previous success at making the ALL-STATE team shows her ability to perform under pressure.
With these two talented players leading the way, the team is in good hands. In addition to the returning players, Coach Baker also mentioned the impact that the new players will have on the team. He believes that the unique skill sets of Autumn, Mercedes, and Shania will bring a dynamic presence to the team. As they continue to grow and develop their skills, these players will be key players in contributing to the team's success.
Team chemistry and camaraderie are important elements for any successful team. Coach Baker shared that the team captains, Keana, Autumn, and Morgan, possess the qualities he looks for in potential leaders. These include integrity, work ethic, and the ability to inspire their teammates. Coach Baker believes that these qualities, combined with their strong individual skills, make them valuable assets to the team.
To foster team chemistry and unity, Coach Baker plans on implementing team bonding events. He believes that trust and unity will translate into improved communication, collaboration, and support during games. This will also create a positive team culture where players feel valued and supported, making them more motivated and dedicated to achieving their goals together.
