Mon, April 14, 2025 at 03:04 AM . North Carolina
Sharpening Skills and Building Confidence in the Offseason The Jordan High School field hockey team is making big strides during the offseason, laying a strong foundation for a competitive fall. Led by new Head Coach Alexa Lantiere, who steps into the top role after six years as an assistant, the Falcons are focusing on refining fundamentals—especially offensive corners—and growing team chemistry through monthly pickup games and coaching strategy sessions. “We’re working to build confidence and creativity on our corners. We know those moments can change a game,” said Coach Lantiere. Play Days and Community Events Fuel Development and Spirit To keep the team active and connected, Jordan has hosted a series of play days, now also open to middle schoolers, to help boost future recruitment. Upcoming sessions include: Week of optional practices, May 19th-22nd (for current players only). Saturday, June 14 – 9:00 AM (Middle schoolers welcome.) All American FH camp will be July 17- 19th. The camp is open to middle schoolers as well! The team also has fundraisers lined up, including: Chipotle Night – Tuesday, May 20, 4–8 PM at 7021 NC-751 #901 Krispy Kreme fundraiser (date and time TBD) New Leadership, Same Dedication With Coach Lantiere stepping into the head role and Coach Mannone continuing to support after leading part of last season, the Falcons have a solid foundation of experience and leadership. The team is also seeking a new JV coach, with several promising candidates under consideration. While the program says goodbye to key seniors who were instrumental in their recent success, the upcoming senior class is the program’s largest, creating a highly competitive environment and setting the stage for a strong, experience-led campaign. Players to Watch: Stars Returning and Rising The Falcons have a wealth of returning talent and emerging stars to keep an eye on this fall: Kennedy Leonard – Leading scorer (14 goals, 8 assists), a creative and composed attacker. Ruby Linares – A dynamic playmaker known for her power and quickness. Liza Avery – Versatile and skilled, with strong passing and dodging. Eliana Almario & Astrid Murrie – Speedy and strong midfielders who drive transition play. Sally Halso & Peyton Harris – Juniors poised for breakout seasons, especially with Halso eyeing her first goal. Raelle Daugird (GK) & Laura McKenzie (D) – Defensive anchors returning to lock down the backline. Katherine McFall, Cameron McCulloch & Kate Hill – Ready to make an impact after missing time due to illness and injury last year. Willow Tebbe, who showed up to every optional practice in the off-season. As a senior this year, we are looking forward to her leadership, consistency, and flexibility as she plays both defense and goalie. Looking Ahead: Challenges and Confidence As the team preps for the 2025 season, one key challenge will be adjusting to new leadership and roster turnover while maintaining the winning culture that has been built. But with energy, experience, and talent returning, Coach Lantiere is optimistic. “It’s going to be a competitive season, and our players are rising to the challenge. We’re ready to put in the work.”
