Kee High School Basketball Season Preview

Season Overview The 2024–25 season was a year of growth and challenges for Kee High’s boys basketball team. After coming off a 22-3 season with both conference and district titles, expectations were high. While the team faced adversity, there were still plenty of individual achievements and promising signs for the program’s future. Key Contributors Jordan Cota (6'5", Forward): Kee's top scorer for the third consecutive year. He set the single-season scoring record and finished second all-time in program history with 1,499 career points. Dalton Mudderman (6'2", PG): The team’s floor leader who broke the school records for single-season and career assists, and also surpassed 1,000 career points. Brayden Darling (6'6", Center): Dominated defensively, setting the school record for blocks in both a single season and career. Karsen Strong: Provided critical interior defense all season long. Trey Cota: Sophomore sharpshooter who had two games with six made three-pointers. Tanner Troendle: An energetic sixth man who grew into a larger role and made key plays in big games. Season Highlights While the team didn’t match the win total from the previous year, it did produce major individual accomplishments: Jordan and Dalton both joined the 1,000-point club. Jordan became the second-highest career scorer in school history. The team won decisively in several games, showing flashes of dominance. Turning Points Injuries played a major role in shaping the season. Brayden’s knee injury in the first game and Tanner’s early-season absence tested the team’s depth immediately. That same game—a tough overtime loss to Charles City—set a tone for the season, with Kee struggling to close out tight games despite leading. Player Development Sophomores Trey Cota and Tanner Troendle showed steady improvement as the season progressed. Both embraced bigger roles and contributed in crucial moments, building a foundation for next season. Senior Leadership The outgoing senior class brought veteran leadership and big-game experience. Jordan, Dalton, and others have been key contributors since they were sophomores. Their absence next year will be felt both on and off the court. Looking Ahead Coach Jeff Cota is optimistic about the program’s direction. “I’m excited about the energy the returning guys play with,” he said. With players like Trey and Tanner gaining valuable experience, the future remains bright.
