As the summer approaches its end and the school year draws near, athletes all across the country are preparing for another exciting season of anticipation and competition. At Kent City High School, Coach Jill Evers is working hard to prepare her cross-country team for success. With a mixture of returning athletes and new additions, the team is ready to push itself to new heights and achieve its goals this year.
As Coach Evers looks at the roster for the upcoming season, she is excited to see some familiar faces amongst the top returning players. Senior Lila Volkers is a standout in the group, having been named to the all-state team three times and holding the school record in the 5K. Her dedication, hard work, and natural talent make her one of the team's leading runners.
Her consistent performance and positive attitude make her a role model for her teammates. Another athlete who will be making an impact this year is junior Brandon McCullough. With his leadership skills and determination, he has earned a spot as a captain on the team. His experience and knowledge of the sport have been invaluable in guiding and motivating his teammates. With his dedication to the sport and his team, McCullough is sure to make a significant impact this season.
Aside from the returning athletes, Coach Evers is also excited about the potential of some new players who have joined the team this year. One athlete in particular, freshman Elliana Max, has caught the coach's attention. Though new to the team, Max has shown great potential and has already displayed determination and drive on and off the track. Coach Evers believes she has the necessary qualities to become a great leader and captain in the future.
When it comes to selecting captains for the team, Coach Evers looks for certain qualities in potential candidates. These qualities include dedication, leadership, and the ability to motivate and inspire others. Team captains are not only responsible for their performance but also for the morale and motivation of the entire team. Currently, there are a few players who are battling for captain roles, including Lila Volkers and Elliana Max.
As the coach of a cross-country team, motivation is crucial to push the athletes to their full potential. Coach Evers knows this and has developed a strategy to keep her team motivated throughout the season. One way she does this is by taking her team on a summer trip in June and holding team camp at the beginning of the season.
