As the new season approaches, all eyes are turning toward the Lancaster High School cross-country team. After a successful season last year, with multiple state qualifiers and a strong showing at the state meet, the team has set its sights on reaching even greater heights this year. I had the opportunity to speak with Coach Teresa Tripp about her team's goals, preparations, and what we can expect to see from them this season.
To start, I asked Coach Tripp about the top returning players from last season. She mentioned Marisa Heil and Harper Allen, who both made it to the state meet last year. These two athletes have the experience and leadership qualities that will undoubtedly make an impact on the team's success this season. Coach Tripp also stressed the importance of teamwork and pushing each other to reach the next level to compete at the state meet as a team and crack the top 10.
When it comes to new players, Coach Tripp highlighted freshmen Brooke Derringer and Amelia Fries as two athletes who she believes will be important to the team's success. As for team captains, Coach Tripp mentioned that they don't choose captains but rather allow every team member to contribute and lead in their way.
Building team chemistry and camaraderie is also a crucial aspect of the team's success. To achieve this, the team participates in a team camp in Hocking Hills at the end of the summer, as well as having team dinners and activities throughout the season. I was curious to know how Coach Tripp motivates her players to push themselves to their full potential.
She explained that they support their goals, push them in practice, and uplift them when needed. Their training and conditioning program also focuses on the mental aspect of distance running, as it is a mental sport that requires a strong mindset to succeed. Despite the challenges that come with preparing for a new season, Coach Tripp expressed that her team is very self-motivated.
They continue to support their goals and push themselves in practice. As for the team's schedule, Coach Tripp mentioned that they will face tough opponents in the highly competitive Central Ohio region. They are also looking forward to showcasing their abilities at their home meet, the Bob Reall Invitational.
When asked about any changes or improvements to the team's training and conditioning program, Coach Tripp mentioned individualized plans for athletes who are competing in multiple sports.
