As we head into the start of a new high school basketball season, fans of the Lathrop High School girl’s basketball team are eagerly anticipating what this year has in store. Under the guidance of Coach Dwayne Davis, this team has shown great potential and determination in previous seasons. With a strong focus on teamwork and academic success, the players are dedicated to achieving their goals both on and off the court. One look at the team’s returning players and it’s clear that they have a talented and experienced core. Top returning players include Shakara Porter and Sierra Adams, who have both proven themselves to be valuable assets to the team. Porter, a junior, has been an All-League player since her freshman year and consistently achieves impressive stats, making her a force to be reckoned with on the court. Adams, a senior, brings versatility and a strong work ethic to the team, able to guard all five positions and improve her outside shot over the summer. Both players have been named captains for this season, showcasing their leadership abilities and commitment to the team. In addition to the returning players, there are also some new additions to the team who are expected to make an immediate impact. Faith Allen, a transfer from Michigan, brings strength, speed, and anticipation to the team, making her a valuable addition to the lineup. The team also has three sophomores who were on the varsity team last season and are now ready to step up their game - Jaliyah Ray, Maddie Nungaray, and Araya Carson. These young players have already proven themselves capable of playing at a high level and are ready to take on bigger roles this year. When it comes to choosing team captains, Coach Davis looks for players who exhibit qualities of leadership, work ethic, and accountability. Porter and Adams, as well as the rest of the team, have shown that they possess these important traits. And while other players may also be vying for the role of captain, it’s clear that these two players have a strong grasp on leading the team to success. Team chemistry and camaraderie are important elements to any successful team and the Lathrop High School girl’s basketball team is no exception. Coach Davis relies on his players to establish and maintain a positive team dynamic, as it sets the foundation for success on the court. He also believes that leadership and work ethic are crucial in cultivating these values.
