It’s an exciting time for the Liberty High School basketball team as they prepare for the upcoming season. With a strong returning core of players and some promising new additions, the team has set its sights on achieving its goals of winning a district and regional title and making it to the state title game. Leading the team this year are several key returning players, all of whom possess unique talents that make them special.
Cierra St. John, a senior guard, is known as one of the best shooters in the state and brings a high basketball IQ to the team. Shania Brown, a dominant 6’2 center, is a force down low and has been putting in the work to improve her strength and conditioning. Moriah Tate, a transfer from Jefferson Forest, adds a new pace to the team’s offense and brings a tenacious defense to the court.
Annabelle Whorley, a senior sharp-shooter, is a crucial piece to the team’s puzzle and brings a high level of dedication and leadership. Brooke Harrison, a 6’4 power forward, is a defensive presence with an improved offensive game. These players, along with the rest of the roster, make this year’s team one of the deepest in the history of Liberty High School. In addition to the returning players, there are also some new additions to the team who are expected to make an immediate impact.
Jaiden Harmon, Annabelle Nance, Megan Walker, and Emma Parker are all young players with potential and a strong work ethic. As Coach Justin Waldron puts it, “They are the future of Liberty High School basketball”. When it comes to selecting team captains, Coach Waldron looks for players who possess certain key qualities. Jaiden Harmon, a class of 2028 combo guard, brings versatility and hard work to the team.
Annabelle Nance, a class of 2027 combo guard, is known for her deep range and made an instant impact when she was brought up to varsity last year. Megan Walker, a class of 2026 guard, is a sharpshooter and team-first player. Emma Parker, also a class of 2026 guard, is a high IQ player with a non-stop motor. These players are battling for the role of captain and embody the team’s values of hard work, unselfishness, and team-mindedness. Coach Waldron is a firm believer in building and maintaining team chemistry, both on and off the court.
