Liberty High School Girls Soccer 2025 Season Recap: Grit, Growth, and Goals Galore
By Winter Season Recap Team
The 2025 girls' soccer season at Liberty High School will be remembered as one of transformation, excitement, and resilience. Under the direction of new head coach John Morgan, the Lady Panthers didn’t just improve—they broke records, turned heads, and laid the foundation for a powerful future.
It wasn’t always smooth sailing, but through determination, teamwork, and a commitment to growth, this young team made a definitive mark on the pitch, signaling that Liberty Girls Soccer is not to be underestimated.
Offensive Firepower and Standout Performances
A team’s success often hinges on the contributions of its core players, and this year, Juniors Miranda Gerardo, Melani Rangel, Marlene Sanchez, and Sophomore goalkeeper Michelle Flores were critical to Liberty’s rise.
Miranda Gerardo and Melani Rangel formed a dynamic attacking duo, leading the team in goal scoring. “When it comes to scoring impact, Miranda and Melani were key,” said Coach Morgan. “Other players could score, but these girls were the team leaders. If they weren’t ‘on,’ the impact was felt.” Their ability to find the net gave Liberty a cutting edge in tight games and helped the team set a school record for most goals in a season.
Marlene Sanchez, operating in the chaos of midfield, served as the team’s offensive engine. Her role in connecting the attack and providing structure was essential. “She did a great job trying to control a chaotic area of the field,” Morgan noted, “and connected play to our attackers.”
In the end, Michelle Flores emerged as a true difference-maker. Despite being new to the position, the sophomore's season was nothing short of remarkable. “Michelle got better as the season went on,” said Morgan. “She came up with big-time saves in key moments to help us see out victories.” Her progress earned her All-Region recognition, a testament to her raw talent and rapid development.
A Gritty Comeback That Defined the Season
There’s always a moment that reveals the heart of a team, and for Liberty, that came in their first district game against Huffman-Hargrave.
Down 4-1 with just under 20 minutes left, many teams would have folded. Not the Lady Panthers.
“All of a sudden, we caught fire,” Morgan recalled. “We scored quickly, then again. Then, with less than a minute left, Miranda sent a cross across the field, and one of our young players ran in to score and tie the game.”
Liberty went on to win the match in penalty kicks, a victory that Coach Morgan described as a key turning point. “It really showed everyone that this was a different team with a different level of grit—you couldn’t take us lightly anymore.”
Emerging Talent and Rapid Development
One of the standout stories of the season was the rise of Araceli Mendez. A dual-sport athlete, Araceli joined the team after volleyball season and was initially placed on JV. But it didn’t take long for her potential to shine.
“Maybe two games in, and we started working her into varsity games,” said Morgan. “By the time district rolled around, she was a starter.”
A quick learner, tough competitor, and extremely coachable, Araceli played a critical role in midfield and defense during the back half of the season—a remarkable trajectory that speaks to the depth of talent on this team.
Leadership and the Lone Senior
Every team needs leaders, and while Liberty’s squad was young, they had one senior whose presence was felt: Daniella Golsby.
“Daniella brought an elite level of speed to our team,” Morgan shared. “It helped us match up better against teams with pace. She was coachable, brought good energy every day, and improved tremendously as the season continued.”
As the only senior, Daniella carried the responsibility of setting the tone, and her contributions—both on and off the field—will be missed.
Culture Shift and a Bright Future
This was Coach Morgan’s first season at the helm, and with that came new expectations, systems, and terminology. The team’s willingness to embrace change was a key factor in their success.
“What’s so special about this group is their willingness to put in the work,” Morgan said. “They adjusted well to the new ideas, and even better—we return everyone except our one senior.”
That continuity is rare in high school sports, and it’s a major advantage heading into the 2026 season. Already, Coach Morgan is seeing the buy-in during the offseason. “Several players are already putting in extra work in the weight room, running, or doing ball work. There’s an energy around getting better—and that’s what excites me.”
Offseason Goals: Precision and Possession
With an eye on continuous improvement, Coach Morgan has specific targets for the offseason: agility and ball skills.
“The goal is to become a more possession-oriented team,” he explained. “We want to be more comfortable with the ball, keep it moving, and control the tempo of games.”
If Liberty can pair its newly discovered scoring prowess with sharper technical skills, the rest of the district should take notice.
Liberty on the Rise
The 2025 season at Liberty was more than just a return to the playoff picture—it was the birth of a new era. From shattering scoring records to pulling off one of the season’s most unforgettable comebacks, the Lady Panthers proved that they are a program with grit, heart, and high aspirations.
Coach Morgan and his players aren't satisfied with just improvement—they’re aiming for excellence. With nearly the entire roster returning, a growing culture of accountability, and a focus on refining their style of play, the sky is the limit for Liberty Girls Soccer.

Final Word
