As the 2024 cross-country season approaches, Coach Annemarie Sampson and the team at Libertyville High School are gearing up for an exciting and promising year. With a roster of 50-60 athletes, the team is ready to make a statement with their dedication, hard work, and determination. The team's overall goals for this season are to continue to be strong in numbers and use their synergy and cohesion to achieve both individual and team success.
They have their sights set on making an impact post-conference and qualifying for the state meet as a team. Leading the charge are top returning players Elsie Colin, Natalie Schlitt, Julia Garrison, Rosemary Inga, Corinne Kalvass, McKenzie Rihm, Sophia Krummick, Claire Rehmer, Clare Erdmann, Violet Young, Savanna Joyce, Caitlyn Griffith, and Emme Fogle. These athletes bring a variety of strengths to the team, including commitment to summer running, coachability, motivation for a comeback, athleticism, and leadership.
Together, they form a strong and well-rounded team that is ready to take on any challenge. Coach Sampson also emphasizes the importance of team chemistry and camaraderie. The team fosters a positive and supportive culture, where multi-sport athletes benefit from the encouragement and camaraderie of their teammates. The team also tackles important issues such as body image and nutrition through open and supportive conversations, promoting a healthy and balanced approach to athletic performance.
Despite facing tough opponents in their conference, the team is excited about the upcoming season and looks forward to competing at both weekday meets and invitationals. But it's not just about physical performance for the team at Libertyville High School. Coach Sampson also places a strong emphasis on the mental aspect of the game. She believes that a shared understanding of the importance of mental focus and concentration will be crucial to their success.
In addition to the team's training and conditioning program, Coach Sampson has implemented a focus on mobility and strength training, as well as the incorporation of yoga into the team's routine. She believes that these practices will not only enhance athletic performance but also promote overall physical and mental well-being for the athletes.
To balance academics and sports, the team allows athletes to use practice time for studying if they feel overwhelmed. This provides a necessary balance for the players to excel both on the field and in the classroom.
