As the new season approaches, it's an exciting time for the Little Chute High School volleyball team. With a strong core of returning players and some new talent, Coach Amy Ostrenga has high hopes for the team's success this year. From building team chemistry to developing leadership and improving skills, Coach Ostrenga is leading the team with a focused and positive mindset.
Let's take a closer look at the team's outlook and what fans can expect from this talented group of athletes. To improve their overall and conference record from last season, the team will look to their experienced players for leadership and talent. The top returning players include Senior Claire Ellenbecker, Juniors Ashley Graf and Eliana Martin.
Claire plays middle blocker and is known for her strong offensive and blocking abilities, but her greatest strength lies in her positive attitude and effective leadership on and off the court. Ashley also plays middle blocker and is a pivotal part of the team's offense with her powerful hits. Along with her leadership skills, she is also a positive influence on the team.
Eliana is a versatile player who can play both outside and right side. Last season, she was in the top 3 hitters for kills and is also an aggressive server and strong defender. Her all-around athleticism makes her a valuable asset to the team. The team also has some new faces that are expected to make an immediate impact. Junior Miranda Kirchner played middle last season on the JV1 team but has now moved to the outside on the varsity team.
Her lethal swing and strong blocking skills make her a player to watch this season. Another junior, Alana VanWychen, is playing libero and is known for her tough defense and ability to read the opponent's offense. Her vocal leadership on the court is also an asset to the team's success. For Coach Ostrenga, the team captains are an extension of herself.
She looks for players who not only possess leadership qualities but also have a positive attitude and can keep the team focused and on track during practices and games. This year, the team captains are Claire, Ashley, and Eliana, but the team also has other players who are battling for the role. This competition for captainship not only shows the depth of leadership on the team but also motivates players to push themselves to be their best.
