As the new season approaches, the Lotus School For Excellence’s basketball team is gearing up for another exciting year. With high hopes and a strong team, Coach Deon Jackson is ready to lead the team to another successful season. We recently had the opportunity to speak with Coach Jackson about this year’s team and what fans can expect to see on the court.
Returning from last season’s championship-winning team are some of the top players who are set to make a significant impact again this year. These players include Abinabi Goitom, who is also a team captain, as well as Noah Horra, the Lemme twins, and Miki Regassa. According to Coach Jackson, all of these players have been in the program for three or more years, and their skills have continued to develop, making them stand out on the court.
Their experience and skill set make them special and invaluable assets to the team. When it comes to team captains, Coach Jackson looks for players who not only have strong leadership skills but also embody the values and principles that the team stands for. For him, being a good human is the top priority, followed by playing hard and together.
These qualities are what he believes makes a great team captain, and currently, Abinabi Goitom is the perfect choice for this role. Team chemistry and camaraderie are crucial for a successful team, and Coach Jackson’s philosophy centers around creating a united and supportive team.
He believes that being a good human comes first, and then having the ability to depend on each team member is essential for building strong relationships. As for team bonding, Coach Jackson revealed that they do a lot of this as a team, ensuring that everyone is connected and on the same page.
When it comes to motivating his players, Coach Jackson stresses the importance of positive words and reminding his players that he has their back. He understands that his players are still young and go through a lot of changes, both physically and mentally. By providing support and encouragement, he helps his players push themselves to their full potential.
However, it hasn’t been an easy road to prepare for this season. Like most teams, the Lotus Lions have had their fair share of setbacks and challenges. But Coach Jackson remains positive, focusing on the important things like being a good human and having his players' backs. In terms of the team’s schedule, Coach Jackson acknowledges that their biggest challenge is with their school being small, but their athletic program being big.
