The 2024 football season is just around the corner, and all eyes are on the Magnolia High School team. With a new season comes new faces and new expectations. We sat down with Coach Poutoa Fuega to discuss the team's goals, challenges, and outlook for the upcoming season. One of the main focuses for Coach Fuega is the top returning players from last season who will play an integral role in the team's success. "I have three top returning players, all seniors, who bring a lot of experience, leadership, and dedication to the team," says Coach Fuega. These players are Neev Bedi, Thierry Araujo, and Derrick Cline. Their commitment to the sport and their teammates makes them stand out from the rest. But it's not just about talent and skill on the field for Coach Fuega. He believes that the success of the team also depends on the players' overall student concept. "I'm looking at their grades, behavior, attitude, work ethics, and leadership potential," he explains. This focus on developing well-rounded individuals is what sets the Magnolia High School team apart. With the new season also comes new players who have the potential to make an immediate impact on the team. However, Coach Fuega emphasizes that every position on the team is open for competition, giving both new and returning players an equal opportunity to earn a spot on the roster. "Making it fun and stressing the importance of taking ownership and pride in their work on and off the field is key," he adds. Preparing for a new season brings its own set of challenges, and Coach Fuega acknowledges that the competition will be tougher this year. But he also believes that having an experienced coaching staff will help overcome those challenges. "Having good experience coaching staff makes things a little easier," he says. However, one of the biggest challenges remains keeping the team focused and on task, especially with a large number of new players who have never played football before. The team's schedule for this season looks promising, with matchups against schools in the same level and division. Coach Fuega is particularly excited about playing league games and taking on tough opponents to win their division. This will also be the first season in the team's newly realigned league, which adds to the excitement and motivation to perform at their best.
