The 2024–25 season was one to remember for Marshfield High School basketball. Under the leadership of Head Coach Jesse Ainsworth, the Pirates stormed through a competitive schedule to finish with an impressive 23-4 record, a Sky-Em Conference championship, and a 2nd place finish at the state tournament. Marshfield also earned the distinction of being the #1 defensive team in the state and ranked #3 offensively—a testament to both talent and tenacity.
Key Contributors
This year’s success was powered by a mix of veteran leadership and rising stars:
Steel Carpenter (Senior): The engine of the offense and a steady leader, Steel was named Sky-Em Conference Player of the Year and earned 1st Team All-State honors. His scoring ability and poise set the tone throughout the season.
Luke Jackson (Senior): A defensive anchor, Luke led the team in rebounds and blocks. His presence in the paint and physical play earned him 2nd Team All-State honors.
Keller Vinyard (Sophomore): Keller made a significant leap in his development, becoming a 1st Team All-State selection and bringing versatility, energy, and impact on both ends of the floor.
Jackson Ainsworth (Freshman) and Jonah Martin (Senior): Both earned Honorable Mention All-League and contributed with key minutes and momentum-changing plays.
Defining the Season
Coach Ainsworth attributes much of the team’s success to the groundwork laid in the offseason. “The summer was huge for us,” he said. “We played 20+ games, held open gyms, and focused on skill development. It paid off during the regular season.”
Player Growth
Several players emerged into bigger roles as the season unfolded:
Jackson Ainsworth (Freshman): Took on significant varsity minutes and rose to the challenge.
Trenton Holmes (Sophomore) and Chandler Wyatt (Junior): Both players saw marked improvement and became integral parts of the rotation.
Keller Vinyard’s rise to one of Oregon’s top underclassmen was another highlight, showcasing the strength of the program’s development pipeline.
Handling Adversity
Whether it was bouncing back from losses or staying composed under playoff pressure, the team showed tremendous resilience. “Our group responded with maturity and grit,” said Ainsworth. “They never got too high or too low and stayed focused on our goals.”
Senior Legacy
The senior class left a lasting legacy of leadership and competitiveness. “They were the heart of our team,” Ainsworth noted. “Their example will be the standard for the younger guys moving forward.”
Looking Ahead
The future is bright for Marshfield. With a core of young players returning, including Keller Vinyard, Jackson Ainsworth, and others, the program is poised to remain a contender. “We’re excited about what’s ahead,” said Ainsworth. “We’ve got talent, experience, and a hunger to get better.”
Offseason Focus
This offseason, the emphasis will be on refining skills, building strength, and growing team chemistry. “We want to build on what we accomplished,” Ainsworth said, “and take the next step.”
